Fear of falling after a health setback: safety before confidence work
After a fall or illness, feeling cautious about movement is understandable.
After a fall or illness, feeling cautious about movement is understandable. A hypnosis-based confidence exercise must not encourage you to ignore balance problems, remove mobility aids or exceed the advice of the professionals supporting you.
A practical starting point
Ask your healthcare team about appropriate falls assessment and rehabilitation. Bring that plan to any complementary consultation and choose a goal related to coping with worry, not proving that you can move without assistance. Keep needed equipment in place.
Making an informed choice about hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy uses guided attention and suggestion towards an agreed goal. Evidence and suitability depend on the problem, the method and the practitioner; a general session is not equivalent to specialist clinical treatment. Ask about relevant training, the proposed approach, total costs and how progress will be reviewed. You can decline a suggestion, request a pause or decide the approach is not for you.
A question to bring to a consultation
Can all suggestions respect my mobility aids and rehabilitation advice?
Before committing, agree on a goal that matters to you and a point at which to review whether the sessions are useful. You are free to stop. A practitioner should explain their limits clearly and welcome questions about other sources of support.
When to seek professional support
New dizziness, falls or changes in balance need medical assessment. Hypnotherapy does not improve physical stability by itself and cannot replace falls prevention or rehabilitation.
Discuss suitability with your clinician before hypnosis if you have epilepsy, schizophrenia or a history of psychosis. Tell the practitioner about relevant conditions and ongoing care. Do not use hypnosis recordings while driving or operating machinery.
This article is general information for adults, not a diagnosis or individual treatment advice. Complementary support should sit alongside appropriate healthcare. Do not stop prescribed treatment without advice from the professional responsible for it.
