Harsh self-talk: exploring a fairer description with NLP

A mistake can quickly become a statement about your whole identity: one difficult conversation turns into 'I am useless with people'. A reflective session may examine that language while leaving room for the fact that the experience genuinely hurt.
A practical starting point
Choose a recent, ordinary setback. Describe what happened without an insult or a prediction about your future. Write what you would want to learn or ask for next time. The aim is a fair account, not forced praise.
The scope and limits of NLP
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is offered in some coaching settings to explore language, habits and personal goals. It is not the same as an established psychological treatment. A systematic review found little reliable evidence of improved health outcomes, with limitations in the available studies. Treat any exercise here as optional reflection, not a clinical prescription or a promise to change symptoms.
A question to bring to a consultation
Can we develop language that feels believable rather than rehearsing affirmations I do not accept?
Before committing, agree on a goal that matters to you and a point at which to review whether the sessions are useful. You are free to stop. A practitioner should explain their limits clearly and welcome questions about other sources of support.
When to seek professional support
If self-criticism comes with persistent low mood, self-harm or a sense of worthlessness, seek appropriate mental health support.
